Home Learning

Home learning builds good study habits and helps students remember what they learn in class. We keep it simple and consistent:

  • English, Maths and Science: set weekly homework on Sparx.

  • Sparx for revision: students can also use Sparx independently for extra practice and revision at any time.

  • All subjects: have a class Team (Microsoft Teams). As the year goes on, teachers will begin posting lesson resources there to help students review and consolidate learning.

If there are any access issues with Sparx or Teams, students should speak to their class teacher or form tutor so we can help.

What students should do each week

  1. Complete Sparx homework for English, Maths and Science.

  1. Use Sparx revision to revisit tricky topics or prepare for assessments.

  1. Check your class Team for any resources your teacher has shared (more will appear as the year progresses).

  1. Keep your exercise book and notes tidy so they’re easy to revise from.

  1. Review key vocabulary from lessons and practise using it in sentences.

  1. Do a quick retrieval check: quiz yourself on last lesson (no notes → check → correct).

How parents and carers can help

  • Ask to see Sparx each week and encourage finishing set tasks.

  • Talk through new vocabulary; ask your child to explain ideas in simple terms.

  • Encourage short bursts of retrieval practice (quiz without notes, then check answers).

  • Help your child log in to Teams and check for posted resources as the year goes on.

  • Praise effort and progress.

Platforms we use

Sparx (English, Maths, Science)
Weekly homework and on-demand revision practice that builds fluency and confidence through little-and-often practice.

Microsoft Teams (all subjects)
Every class has a Team. Teachers will gradually add lesson materials and guidance to support review and consolidation as each term progresses.
