Our Vision & Values
Our Mission
Our mission is to give our students an education that gives them choice and opportunity to shape their own futures and equips them to make a positive difference to the world.
Our Five Core Principles
|
Inclusive Community |
We strive to create a welcoming and supportive community where everyone feels valued and can thrive, fostering a sense of belonging and unity. We recognise and embrace one another’s unique stories and qualities and seek to be a community where diversity is respected, and no one is left out or left behind. |
|
Respect for all people |
All members of our school community engage in a concerted effort to respect the dignity of all people. Respect-filled relationships are at the heart of our approach to education, and we treat each other with kindness. |
|
Intellectual curiosity |
We foster intellectual curiosity through a rigorous academic curriculum, and a supportive environment that encourages independent thinking and exploration. We emphasise not only academic excellence, but the development of lifelong learning habits, and encourage students to embrace the opportunity to take part in extracurricular activities. |
|
Character Development |
We recognise that the habits that young people learn and practise when they are growing up follow them through into adulthood. We guide students to develop their virtues and personal strengths, to help them recognise what they are good at, and use their talents to make a positive contribution to the school and the wider world. |
|
A culture of service |
We encourage students to build links with our local community, so that they learn the value of service to others, broaden their life skills and bring benefits to the wider community. We encourage students to be change-makers who work towards social justice and a fairer world. |
Our Approach to Character Development
With a focus on rigorous academics and personalised support, we empower our students to reach their full potential. However, we believe that academic achievement is just one aspect of a well-rounded education. We place equal emphasis on the development of character and creating conditions where students are happy at school. This is why we explicitly teach students the Wisbech Academy values and virtues, and we have a bespoke character development programme.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Specialism
We offer a broad and balanced curriculum, with a particular focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). In the modern workplace, with the fast pace of change and developments in artificial intelligence, it is important for employees to be creative and adaptable. The STEM focus in the Wisbech Academy curriculum equips students to thrive in this environment, as it fosters innovation, curiosity and resilience.
As a STEM-focused school, The Wisbech Academy is committed to embedding Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics across our curriculum, preparing students for the careers of tomorrow. Our approach not only nurtures academic excellence but also equips students with practical, transferable skills that are highly valued in the real world. By emphasising critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving, we aim to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators.Students have access to a wide range of exciting STEM opportunities, including a planned visit to the National Space Centre. Our thriving STEM enrichment programme features clubs such as the STEM Lego Robotics Club, where students design and program their own creations, and the Eco Council, where they tackle real-world environmental challenges. Through our Science Club, students design and run their own scientific investigations, fostering independence and a passion for discovery, while our school newspaper introduces them to STEM journalism, developing their communication and research skills in reporting cutting-edge advancements.
This year, we are also participating in the STEM fest Challenge, where students research and design projects that use STEM to solve real-world problems. Additionally, students began their learning journey with the Climate Action Project, an environmental initiative where they explored the science of climate change and worked collaboratively to propose solutions and individual actions to help address the challenges of climate change. These experiences lay the foundation for our students to grow into active and informed citizens, equipped with STEM skills to create a sustainable future.
We are also challenging our higher-ability students to take part in the Brilliant Club, where they have the opportunity to engage directly with academics for their projects. This year, they are working with a neuroscientist from the University of Nottingham and will have the opportunity to attend seminars, complete academic assignments and develop essential skills such as critical thinking, research, and academic writing. This unique collaboration provides students with an invaluable insight into higher education and supports them in building bright and ambitious futures.
In addition to this, we have an Escape Room Club, where students put their teamwork and reasoning skills to the test as they collaborate to complete exciting challenges. Minecraft Education is another unique STEM opportunity, enabling young leaders in the school to shine and showcase their skills. Students explore diverse topics, from molecules to evolution, through immersive Minecraft-based learning experiences.
At The Wisbech Academy, we believe STEM education is about more than just academic success—it’s about empowering students with the skills, confidence, and ambition to shape the future.
