Construction begins on The Wisbech Academy's new home
The Wisbech Academy, part of Brooke Weston Trust, has reached a significant milestone in its development, with construction of the school’s permanent building now officially underway. Following their appointment as lead contractors, Henry Brothers arrived on site on 24th August to break ground and begin the initial phase of works.
This development marks the start of the final chapter in the academy’s journey to its purpose-built site, transforming a long-held vision into a tangible reality for staff, students, and the wider community.
As the school continues to grow, having recently expanded its current temporary provision and introduced an extra year group to accommodate students up to Year 9, demand for places remains high. To guarantee the build quality and finish that students deserve as the school scales, the schedule for moving into the permanent home has been adjusted to between Easter and the summer of 2028. While this timeline represents a revision of initial estimates, the additional time is vital for delivering a bespoke, state-of-the-art environment designed to inspire learning for years to come.
Richard Scott, Executive Principal of The Wisbech Campus, said: "We were thrilled to partner with Henry Brothers to get this build underway. Seeing the ground broken last week was an incredibly proud moment for all of us. While we are naturally eager to get into our new home, we are focused on the long-term goal of providing an exceptional facility. Taking the time to ensure the quality of this build is right means our students will walk into a space that truly serves their needs when we officially open our permanent doors in 2028."
Throughout the construction period, The Wisbech Academy remains firmly committed to providing an outstanding educational experience. Students continue to benefit from high-quality teaching and resources in the current modular facilities, which have recently been expanded to welcome our first cohort of Year 9 pupils, supplemented by the excellent sports and specialist amenities available across Brooke Weston Trust.
The site team worked closely with local stakeholders to ensure that construction traffic and activity were managed responsibly, keeping disruption to Weasenham Road and the surrounding area to an absolute minimum.
