Elevating reading with Brooke Weston Trust

Elevating reading with Brooke Weston Trust
News / 17 Apr 2026

We began the summer term with a valuable professional development opportunity, visiting Peckover Primary School as part of a collaborative staff training day within Brooke Weston Trust.

During the visit, staff observed lessons with a focus on how reading is taught, gaining first-hand insight into effective classroom practice. Colleagues learned from the expertise of Peckover teachers, seeing how reading strategies are clearly modelled and embedded to support pupils’ comprehension and confidence.

This visit directly supports the Trust-wide literacy strategy being developed across all Brooke Weston Trust schools, helping to build a consistent and high-quality approach to reading.

Reflecting on the visit, Rachel Lawrence-Bryon, Associate Principal at Wisbech Academy, said:

“The visit to Peckover Primary School was truly inspiring. It has been a real boost for The Wisbech Academy teachers to see such strong reading practice in action and to learn from colleagues who are so passionate about their work.”

Jayne McCallum, Trust Director of Development at Brooke Weston Trust, added:

“Collaboration like this is central to our literacy strategy. By sharing expertise and learning directly from excellent practice across our schools, we are strengthening reading provision and ensuring consistent, high-quality experiences for pupils throughout the Trust.”

Kate Kendal, Headteacher at Peckover Primary School, commented:

“We were delighted to welcome colleagues from The Wisbech Academy to Peckover. Sharing practice and learning from one another is incredibly valuable, and we are pleased to be able to support Trust-wide work to strengthen the teaching of reading for all pupils.”

Wisbech Academy would like to thank the staff at Peckover School for their generosity, warm welcome and for openly sharing their expertise. The visit highlighted the strength of collaboration within the Trust and the shared commitment to improving outcomes for all pupils through professional learning and partnership working.
