Vision and Values

Mission

Our mission is to give our students an education that gives them choice and opportunity to shape their own futures and equips them to make a positive difference to the world.

Our Ethos

At The Wisbech Academy we have an inclusive ethos, and a wholehearted commitment to putting character and values development at the heart of our curriculum. Our policies are intended to foster exceptional personal development and academic achievement of the young person, as well as the overall wellbeing of the school community.

Our STEM Specialism

As a STEM-focused school, The Wisbech Academy is committed to embedding Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics across our curriculum, preparing students for the careers of tomorrow. Our approach not only nurtures academic excellence but also equips students with practical, transferable skills that are highly valued in the real world. By emphasising critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving, we aim to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators.

Students have access to a wide range of exciting STEM opportunities, including a planned visit to the National Space Centre. Our thriving STEM enrichment programme features clubs such as the STEM Lego Robotics Club, where students design and program their own creations, and the Eco Council, where they tackle real-world environmental challenges. Through our Science Club, students design and run their own scientific investigations, fostering independence and a passion for discovery, while our school newspaper introduces them to STEM journalism, developing their communication and research skills in reporting cutting-edge advancements.

This year, we are also participating in the STEMfest Challenge, where students research and design projects that use STEM to solve real-world problems. Additionally, students began their learning journey with the Climate Action Project, an environmental initiative where they explored the science of climate change and worked collaboratively to propose solutions and individual actions to help address the challenges of climate change. These experiences lay the foundation for our students to grow into active and informed citizens, equipped with STEM skills to create a sustainable future. Read about our STEM Climate Action project here.

We are also challenging our higher-ability students to take part in the Brilliant Club, where they have the opportunity to engage directly with academics for their projects. This year, they are working with a neuroscientist from the University of Nottingham and will have the opportunity to attend seminars, complete academic assignments and develop essential skills such as critical thinking, research, and academic writing. This unique collaboration provides students with an invaluable insight into higher education and supports them in building bright and ambitious futures.

In addition to this, we have an Escape Room Club, where students put their teamwork and reasoning skills to the test as they collaborate to complete exciting challenges. Minecraft Education is another unique STEM opportunity, enabling young leaders in the school to shine and showcase their skills. Students explore diverse topics, from molecules to evolution, through immersive Minecraft-based learning experiences.

At The Wisbech Academy, we believe STEM education is about more than just academic success—it’s about empowering students with the skills, confidence, and ambition to shape the future.
